How Samsung Galaxy SIII Beat Apple iPhone 5 to be the World's Best Selling Smartphone

Samsung Galaxy S3 has outsold Apple iPhone 5 to be the world's best selling smartphone. It is the first time that iPhone was dethroned as the world most wanted smartphone. So what happened? Is the Samsung Galaxy S3 really better than the iPhone 5?

The reason could be a very practical one. The supply of iPhone 5 just could not keep up with demand. Foxconn, the Taiwanese manufacturer of iPhone has warned that they could not keep up with the demand. Foxconn is the world's biggest contract manufacturer and also produces smartphone for Nokia, Sony and others. It is estimated that as many as 46 million iPhone would be sold by the end of 2012. However, it seems that iPhone 5 is not easy to manufacture as the iPhone 4S and iPhone 3GS. So Foxconn cannot deliver what Apple wants. That was going from Foxconn's chairman Terry Gou himself, in a interview with reporters on 8 November.

Add to that, Foxconn's factories in China were blamed for having very bad working condition. They were so bad that workers have rioted several times and many workers committed suicide.

If the supply problem for iPhone 5 can be resolved, would Apple reclaim the title of the world's best selling smartphone from Samsung? Only time will tell.
