Buying Used Car From Craigslist

If you are looking to buy a second hand car, Craigslist has a myriad of choices. Comparatively, Craigslist seems like a good buy when you consider the pricey car froma used car dealers, some of which are a tad shady. However, you also run the risk of being scammed when buying from Craigslist.

You should at least do two things before buying a used car from Craigslist. Fristly, register with carfax.com and look up the VIN number of the car you want to buy. This will let you check for any major accidents or incidents that the car had been peviously involved in. The second thing to do, is to drive the car to a mechanic for an inspection. Most car sellers are more than willing to let you drive their car with an inspection. Just ask. The inspection will cost you about forty bucks but it is well worth the money to ensure that the car is in proper working order.

So for our next used car purchase, you should consider the offering on the Craigslist. You will probably get a good deal if you shop around but as like all Internet sales an auction sites, beware of scams.

Things To Consider When Buying Used Car

Types of Car.   What do you need? If you need the car just for yourself, a small sedan or compact would suffice. If you have a big family to drive around, you may want to consider a MPV.

Affordability.   Be prudent and buy what you can afford.  Consider also the running cost and maintenance bills.  You should also consider the fuel economy when choosing a car. With high gas prices today, the fuel cost can add up to a big sum.

Safety Features.   The older cars may not have as many safety features as a new car.  The main safety features that you should have are anti-lock brake system, child-safety locks, lockable electric windows and anti-entrapment feature for powered windows.  If you need to use a child safety seat, buy a car with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system.  It is a simpler way of securing a child seat without using the seat belt.
