Who sent the first text message to a mobile phone? The first that a text message sent to a moble telephone was in 1992. On 3 December 1992, Neil Papworth, a 22-year old British engineer, sent the message "Merry Christmas" from a computer to the Oribitel 901 mobile phone of Richard Jarvis who work for Vodafone. At that time, mobile phone do not have keypad yet. Neil was part of a time at Sema Group Telecoms which was developing a short message service for their client, Vodafone
 
Since then, texting has grown to be an indispenable part of our daily life. With the faster data connections, smartphones and tablets have provide an alternative to Short Message Service (SMS). Fee messaging services that uses the internet, such as WhatsApp are becoming more and more popular. However, SMS will remain with us for long time to come. There are more than 2.4 billion users of mobile devices worldwide. There are still many people who prefer SMS.
