Shopping On The Internet

The internet has changed the way that many Americans and people around the world, do their shopping. Nowadays, there is no need to fight the traffic and crowd to buy gifts and stuff. Almost everything is up for sale on internet portals like Craigslist, Backpage, eBay and Amazon. Of course, one may not get the huge discount on Black Friday at the stores but it is definitely more convenient.

One reason why online portals are so successful, is that the shopping can be purchased from local sources or from other states or even from other countries. It is the local shopping that perhaps, driving much of the popularity of websites like Craigslist and Backpage. Even in the internet age, nothing beats examining something in person before buying. While most people who purchase items off the internet, do not examine the item beforehand, having the option to do so is re-assuring.

Websites like eBay and Amazon are also setting the standard for consumer protection by offering services consumer protection and escrow. Escrow is a service whereby the online portal holds the payment on behalf of the buyer while the good is being delivered. The payment is released to the seller when the buyer is satisfied with the purchase. The seller is also assured that the buyer is genuine and has the money for payment.

Shopping on the internet can be risky as there are many tricksters who will scam unsuspecting internet shoppers. However, websites like Craigslist and Backpage are no different from the classified ads in the newspaper. Craigslist and Backpage simply have more eyeballs online. So exercising prudence when shopping online applies just as for buying things from the classified or anywhere else.
